I am torn about what to feel about this anime. It was entertaining, but I dislike the deceits and betrayals that occurred throughout the episodes. They were okay in the beginning, but I got fed-up with it. Everyone had ulterior motives for the things that they were doing, and it rubbed me off in a bad way. You will develop trust issues with the characters. Some of the twists made my head hurt. I never would have gotten them if they weren't explained in the end. Sometimes it seemed a little convoluted. I like that it played and mocked the rom-com genre, but there were times that they went in an annoying direction. The same goes for when they broke the fourth wall.
In terms of characters, I like that some of them had character development. However, most of the time their development will be destroyed by something they said or did. It was infuriating. This happened a lot, especially to Joro. There were times when Joro was likable and there were times that I hated him. The only ones I truly liked were Pansy, Sasanqua, and Tsubaki. I love the friendship between Oga and Joro, but when I remember the Oga's betrayal, it makes me angry. Still, I love it every time Joro picks Oga out of everyone else. I also love the bond that developed between Cosmos, Oga, Joro, Pansy, and Himawari.
In terms of art, it was nothing amazing, but it was pleasing to look at. I dislike the aspect of Pansy's boobs, though. They were too big. I watched this after I watched a lot of wholesome anime and those parts kind of traumatized me.
SPOILERY THOUGHTS AND REACTIONS
I like Pansy, Sasanqua, and Tsubaki. The others can all go to die. It was so cringe-worthy every time Cosmos' panicked and developed an alter-ego. Honestly, how can Pansy hide her enormous breasts like that? Doesn't it hurt? Also, she revealed herself on school grounds by removing her glasses and showing her breasts?? What the fuck. I was disturbed that Joro's mother looked like a normal mother, but she had the voice actor of a loli character. It's adorable that Pansy developed feelings for Joro when she saw how much he cared for Oga by preparing his favorite snacks and waiting for his tournament to finish. How the hell does Pansy know Joro so well? I felt bad for Joro when he had to leave his friends alone for a while because of the article. Asunaro shouldn't have done that to him. She's a selfish bastard. I felt bad for Pansy when she had to endure Hose's attention again. She didn't want to be around him. She even tried to hide behind Joro. My heart broke for Pansy when she had to hurt Joro and lie about what she feels for him to make him stay away from the library. I get that the anime ended that way to progress the story, but I think that Asunaro, Cosmos, and Himawari were selfish for what they did. If they were truly friends with Pansy, they should have noticed how she reacted whenever Hose was around. They should have at least thought that Joro made that contest to protect Pansy from Hose. Still, Joro was an idiot for not telling them. SCENES I FOUND FUNNY: Each of the vital moments that the characters had happened during the finals of the baseball tournament. Joro was so stressed out every time they mentioned that. Every time the white bench appeared. It always appeared in places it shouldn't be in. Every time Joro broke through the fourth wall. Every time they make fun of the romantic-comedy genre with a harem. Oga's reaction to Cosmos' 5000 problems assignment when she was tutoring them for the exam. In the pool, Joro had the most fun with Oga than any of the other girls. Joro got trust issues if Tsubaki was sincere with him because of how the people in his life acted. Pansy tried to use Tampopo's line about the ear hair. CHARACTER THOUGHTS (Order by Best to Worst): Chiharu Yoki - "Tsubaki" I had trust issues with Tsubaki in the beginning. She seemed too good to be true. I'm glad that she's one of the respectable characters in this anime. She gave Joro a job and always made him realize his worth, and how much his friends cared for him. Asaka Mayama - "Sasanqua" She is very adorable. She was quite mean in the beginning, but she tried her best to apologize to Joro. She acted tough before, but she was so shy around Joro. When Joro was down, she cheered him up. Sumireko Sanshokuin - "Pansy" She was there to help Joro whenever he needed her. She managed to see the best parts of him and confronted him whenever he did something wrong. She's kind of creepy when she stalked Joro. Amatsuya Kirasagi - "Joro" THINGS I HATE ABOUT JORO: He looked down on Pansy because of her looks, even though she helped him a lot. He tried to make Pansy date Oga, even though she likes him. He claims that he is kind and pure when he has an ulterior motive for the things he does. He always has lewd thoughts about all the girls in his life. He used an underhand way to supposedly win Pansy over Hose. Good thing it backfired. He's pretty dumb for thinking that the other girls would pick him over Hose when they want to be with him themselves. He got thrilled when the girls confessed to him, even though I think he wanted to be with Pansy. THINGS I LIKE ABOUT JORO: He got mad at Oga for laughing at Himawari and Cosmos' feelings. He still went to the library for Pansy even though he told her that he wouldn't go there again. He didn't go for Pansy even though she revealed that she's the beautiful and big-breasted girl. He apologized to Oga after the betrayal events because he didn't care about pride, and he just wanted to be friends with him again. He got mad at Asunaro not because of the betrayal, but because she wasted Oga's time. He told Sasanqua that an apology would be enough because everyone makes mistakes. He realized that he was an asshole when he got mad at Pansy when she confronted him. He apologized to Pansy for getting mad at her and admitted that he got mad because of his inferiority complex. He got mad at Himawari for buying him the book when she clearly should have prioritized buying herself a racket. He wanted her to prioritize her dreams more. He was happy when he got a picture of the beautiful version of Pansy. He went back to Pansy after Tsubaki made him realize what Oga and Pansy did so that he won't be troubled. Taiyo Oga - "Sun-chan" THINGS I HATE ABOUT OGA: He betrayed his best friend because of a girl. How about the bro-code man! He played with Himawari and Cosmos' feelings. He treated them like they were nothing. He tried to harass Pansy in the library when he thought they were alone. He managed to redeem himself later on. He apologized for what he did to Cosmos and Himawari. He tried his best to support and protect Joro. Aoi Hinata - "Himawari" and Sakura Akino - "Cosmos" I hated them both in the first few episodes. They used Joro to get closer to Oga and then betrayed him. Joro had an ulterior motive, but still, they used him and even got mad at him. They got better in the later episodes. Cosmos helped him with Asunaro, and Himawari helped him with the book. Momo Sakurabara - "Cherry" and Luna Kusami - "Tsukimi" I understand their choice to stay friends with Hose and not pursue their feelings, but they should have been more honest with themselves about how much it was hurting them. I hate that they never thought of how Pansy feels about Hose. They always pushed Hose to her, even though she doesn't like it and they told Joro to stay away from her. What right did they have? They are not even friends with Pansy. Kimie Kamata - "Tampopo" She is such an annoying character. She had no personality and is quite selfish (pushing Pansy towards Sun-chan just so she can have Hose for herself). She's a moron. I love that Joro insults her every time. Yasuo Hazuki - "Hose" I knew he was too good to be true. He was so upbeat and nice that it seemed suspicious. I understand why Pansy disliked Hose. He didn't understand that by asking the girls around him to cheer him on, he was hurting them. It's like he was rubbing salt to their wounds. There's a fine line between being naive, and not caring. Hina Hanetachi - "Asunaro" I hated Asunaro. She's such a selfish bastard. She treated Joro like trash using the article, manages to make him feel abandoned, and then she goes and confesses to him. I'm happy that Cosmos uncovered her shit. I'm happy that she never became part of the group. Though she still appeared from time to time. I also hated her when she tried to help Tampopo with her goal to match Oga and Pansy. She only thinks of herself.
SUMMARY OF EVENTS Joro decided to help Cosmos and Himawari get along with their crush, Oga. Pansy confessed to Joro. Joro found out that Oga likes Pansy and tried to make Pansy go out with him. Cosmos and Himawari found out and got mad at him. The students ostracized Joro because of what happened at the library. Pansy revealed that Oga tricked Joro. He planned the event that made Cosmos and Himawari mad at Joro. He was angry that a girl he liked preferred Joro. Cosmos, Himawari, and Oga apologized to Joro. Pansy revealed that she's the beautiful and big-breasted girl that Joro likes. Joro, Oga, Himawari, and Cosmos made up. They became friends again. They began hanging out in the library with Pansy. Pansy and Cosmos tutored Joro, Oga, and Himawari. Asunaro from the Newspaper Club blackmailed Joro. She was going to publish an article exposing Joro as someone who dates three girls at the same time. Joro was nominated for the Flower Festival Dance. He was supposed to dance with three girls. One of them backed out. Oga became the replacement. Asunaro's article about Joro got leaked. The girls told Joro to stay away for a while. Asunaro still spent time with him. Cosmos revealed that Asunaro leaked the article on purpose so she can have Joro alone. She liked Joro. She wanted to be the replacement for the Flower Festival Dance, so she ambushed Oga as well. Joro got mad at her for wasting Oga's time. Pansy became the replacement for the dance. She figured out that Joro made her spend time with the others so that she would have friends. Pansy met Joro's mother. The gang went to a pool. Himawari, Pansy, and Cosmos made a contest to determine which one of them would Joro enjoy spending time the most. It ended up in a disaster, which Oga saved him from. Oga won the contest even though he wasn't part of it. Joro ran into Sasanqua, and she asked how she can apologize to Joro for what she did during the article issue. Tsubaki transferred to their school. She fell for Joro when he bought all the food in her stall during the baseball game to cheer Oga up. Joro started working at Tsubaki's family restaurant. He wanted money so that he can buy a new copy of the book Pansy lend him, which was accidentally destroyed. Pansy got mad at him because he was working for the wrong reason. Joro met Hose and was comforted by him. He apologized to Pansy. Himawari spent her money on buying Joro the book he wanted, instead of buying a new racket. Tampopo wanted Joro's help in getting Oga and Pansy together. She wanted to find Pansy a boyfriend so that she can have Hose for herself. She and Pansy went to the same middle school. Cosmos found out that the school is planning to close the library. They planned a countermeasure to avoid that. Joro asked Hose for help. He found out that Hose is one of the reasons why Pansy hid her true form. They went to the same middle school, but she didn't want to be with him. He protected her, but she hated that he hurt the feelings of the other girls who liked him. She didn't say that to him because she owes him. She was grateful to him. Oga and Pansy agreed to start dating. She told Joro to stay away from the library because he's more trouble than he's worth. Tsubaki made him realize that Pansy only did that to protect him. They realized that even though Pansy and Oga had an agreement, Hose would never back down. Joro told Oga that he figured it out. Hose confessed to Pansy. To make Hose give up, Joro decided to hold a popularity contest. Pansy, Himawari, Cosmos, Asunaro, Cherry, and Tsukimi get to vote who they think should be with Pansy more. Joro thought that he would win because four of the girls are on his side. Cosmos, Himawari, and Asunaro gave their vote to Hose because they want to be with Joro.
