| ANIME - Hinamatsuri |

Hinamatsuri Poster
SYNOPSIS: Nitta, a member of a Yakuza-clan, became a guardian when Hina, a girl with psychic powers, suddenly arrived in his home.

GENRE: Comedy, Sci-Fi, Slice of Life
NUMBER OF EPISODES: 12
RATING: 6/10
If you looking for something funny, this one is for you. It was entertaining for that aspect. However, that's all there is to it. I don't think there's much substance to the story and the characters. Most of the episodes felt like a filler. The story was supposed to be about Hina, a girl with psychic powers, yet she rarely used it. It focused more on the everyday lives of the different characters introduced. To be honest, somewhere in the middle, I got bored. I just finished this for the sake of finishing it. It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't engaging. Also, sometimes the humor comes from the pain of others, and I didn't really like that.

In terms of the characters, they were all right. However, I didn't get attached to any of them. They felt quite shallow. This is probably because most of the emotional scenes that were shown were usually followed by something stupid. There were many filler type characters introduced. Most of them were useless or annoying. Sometimes both. Also, some adults here aren't trustworthy. They are disguised by the comedic nature of the show, however, if you think about it, they are quite problematic.

SPOILERY THOUGHTS AND REACTIONS

  • I find it funny that Hina goes to school and just sleeps because I can relate. However, I study so I'm not like Hina.
  • I wish that we could've known more about where Hina came from, and how is it that she has psychic abilities.
  • My heart broke for Anzu and her homeless family. It was devastating when they had to be separated. They had to let Anzu go so that she could go somewhere better.
  • I honestly feel bad for Hitomi. She was forced to grow up before she wanted. I wished that she could say no to more things so that she won't be trapped by them. I'm proud of her, though. She earned a lot of money at her age.
  • I disliked Hina in the beginning. She was selfish. She was a freeloader at Nitta's home, and she could have done better to help him around. She pissed me off. She had many good intentions, but honestly, she could have tried harder to make it work-out. She half-assed things, and that's why she ruined the house multiple times. I'm glad that she got better, but she can still improve a lot more.
  • I love Anzu. She was the most hardworking person there. She sucked when she was still a thief, but after meeting Yassan, she got better. She worked hard for the things she has.
  • I'm actually proud of Nitta. He had to endure a lot while taking care of Hina. Sure, there were times that he sucked, but still, he tolerated Hina's selfishness and laziness. Even Anzu couldn't take her selfishness, and Anzu is the kindest person in this anime.
  • I love the bond that Nitta and Hina developed.

  • LEAST LIKED CHARACTER: Utako
  • FAVORITE CHARACTERS: Hitomi, Anzu
  • ANNOYING CHARACTERS: Kei, Mao, Mami

  • PARTS THAT I LIKED:
    • Yassan taught Anzu a new way of life, and the homeless people adopted her into their group. I love their bond.
    • Nitta didn't make Hina use her powers on others even though he could have. He didn't take advantage of her.
    • Hina decided to go back to Nitta even though she was making enough money just because she likes being with him.
    • Hina gave Nitta a new vase to make up for the ones she broke and apologized to him.
    • Anzu was happy when Hitomi became her friend.
    • Nitta told his family that Hina is his daughter.
    • Anzu got adopted by a nice family and her being motivated to work harder than ever so that she can use the things that Yassan and the others taught her.
    • Hina and Nitta's celebration before the time that she was supposed to leave with Kei.
    • Hina tried her best to celebrate Nitta's promotion. The outcome was very stupid, though. Nitta thought they were having his funeral.
    • Nitta believed that Anzu is a good person and had a genuinely good time with her.

  • PARTS THAT ARE FUNNY BUT ALSO SAD:
    • Nitta got trapped inside the pod, and Hina wouldn't release him. He had to piss on himself before he was able to escape. The least she could do was help him out because he did take care of her.
    • Hitomi got a job as a bartender, but her mother wouldn't believe her. She had to move out and try to live on her own.
    • Hina tried to clean the house to make Nitta happy but ended up destroyed things.
    • Nitta disowned Hina after she destroyed his home.
    • Nitta didn't believe Hina when she told him that she was running for the student council. Honestly though, who would believe that immediately.
    • Nitta celebrated with Hina when Utako agreed to go on a date with him, and he accidentally injured Hina.
    • Kei was shocked when she found out that Hina became a better person.
    • Hina arrived back at home after Kei told her that they wouldn't be able to leave, and she found out that Nitta was celebrating.

  • PARTS THAT ARE FUNNY BUT ALSO STUPID:
    • Nitta was promoted in his clan because Hina defeated the rival group.
    • Nitta thought that he saved the nation because he took care of Hina. He imagined a hungry Hina who attacked the town.
    • Hina and Anzu's fight that turned into a game because of Nitta. The facial expressions that Hina and Anzu made. Also, every time Nitta bribed Hina so that she would provoke Anzu.
    • Hina joined Nitta in the girly club because she wanted to spend more time with him.
    • Hitomi's homeroom teacher believed that she's not his student after she made him drinks.
    • Hitomi and Hina tried to help Anzu find TVs.
    • The Yakuza clan called their lawyer just to help Hina with her speech as a student council president.
    • Hitomi's classmates found out that she worked as a bartender, and they made her admit it out loud. Honestly, it was kind of disturbing that they thought she was sleeping around with their homeroom adviser.
    • Nitta was promoted as a lieutenant after he was almost killed for the misunderstanding.
    • The bosses made fun of Nitta because of the video-special that the journalist manipulated.

  • PARTS I DISLIKED:
    • Nitta left Hina home and fed her canned mackerel just so he can flirt with the ladies at night.
    • Utako blackmailed and tricked Hitomi into becoming a bartender.
    • Utako pushed Hitomi into leaving her home and making her move into an apartment that costs a lot just because she didn't want to lose her best bartender. Hitomi had to work plenty of jobs to survive, even though she was just in middle school.
    • The customers of the bar told Nitta to go away because he disowned Hina. Honestly, that was bad, but they didn't the struggle that Nitta had to go through.
    • Hina decided to become the student council president, but when she became the secretary, she never attended. Hitomi had to take her place. As if Hitomi didn't have many things on her plate.
    • Nitta was almost killed by the bosses of the Yakuza because Sabu told them incomplete information. Nitta deserved the benefit of a doubt. Sabu should've told them immediately. I get that he'd be in trouble, but Nitta was good to him.
    • Sabu taught Anzu how to gamble. I liked that Anzu didn't get addicted, though.
    • The journalist manipulated the data he gathered about Nitta just because it didn't fit the image of a Yakuza. He couldn't accept that Nitta was just a normal person.
    • Nitta kept trying to push Anzu to turn into a selfish person just because he had a hard time with Hina. He was jealous of Hina's adoptive parents and wanted them to have a hard time raising Anzu.
    • Every part about Mao. She was a stupid addition to the characters. She was useless. The martial arts students were also annoying.
    • The part about Kei was also useless. I get that it was supposed to be heartbreaking for Hina and Nitta, yet they didn't even push it. Hina didn't have to fight anyone to let her stay or something. They simply weren't able to leave.
    • Mami was another stupid character. She was annoying and useless. I'm actually glad that she embarrassed herself hard, but it was so cringy.
