REVIEW: 

I found the story in this quite interesting. It showed a lot about human nature especially with regards to Celine Montclaire. She had to endure many hardships and we get to see her make choices based from those hardships. It's interesting to know more about the Circle Members even though it's just Robert, Stephen, and Valentine. Also, Cassandra Clare's writing about Paris was beautiful.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed seeing Jem finding something concrete about the quest he is doing.

SHOULD YOU READ IT: If you want to know more about Celine Montclaire - Jace's mother and the progress with Jem's quest, then absolutely.

• I really loved reading about Paris. It seemed so beautiful yet sad on Celine's eyes.
• It's funny to see that Stephen inherited the bird phobia - he's afraid of pigeons.
• It's interesting to see Stephen Herondale here. He inherited the Herondale sarcasm/humor, phobia, and looks yet he's so different than the ones we knew. 
• I have mixed feelings about Celine. I can understand the loneliness she went through but I didn't like the choices the she made. I always thought that Valentine forced her to marry Stephen but it seemed like they forced Stephen. I never imagined that she would be in cahoots with Valentine based on what was mentioned of her in the Mortal Instruments. It's really interesting how her experiences shaped her to be the person she is. If only Brother Zachariah spent more time with her.
• It's heartbreaking to read about what Celine had to go through when she was young. Her parents were such asshole and they deserved what they got. I just didn't really like the fact that Celine was the one who finalized their fate.
• It's funny to read about Shadowhunters knowing about Pop Culture.
• I really liked finding out that the Lost Herondale that Jem is seeking is a woman. I like Rosemary. She's feisty. I wonder if she is Kit Herondale's mother? She's kind of close to their timeline because this during the Circle's time.
• I really hated that Celine and Jem only had a minor interaction. I wonder what Celine's future would have been if Jem had been able to reach out to her?
• WHAT HAPPENED?
• Celine, Stephen, and Robert were under a mission to observe a certain warlock by Valentine. Celine is in love with Stephen and is not trying to show it.
• They tried to invade the Warlock's stall in the Night Market but she got one on them. She managed to put a love potion on Stephen so that he'll fall for Celine which shocked her.
• They managed to capture the warlock and tie her up and torture her. Celine overheard Robert and Stephen talking about the fact that they look at her as someone immature and always in need of someone.
• Celine decides to roam around Paris while mourning her feelings for Stephen. She encountered Rosemary and Jack and even saves Rosemary from demons. Rosemary warned her about Valentine.
• Meanwhile, Jem managed to track Jack Crow whom he believes to be the Lost Herondale. They agreed to meet sometime in the afternoon. Jem also encountered Celine in the Shadow Market and they bonded on their love for certain Herondales.
• Jack Crow did not come to their meeting place. Instead, Jem encountered Rosemary. He realized that she's the Lost Herondale and not Jack. He gave her back the Herondale locked with a spell on it in case she ever needed her help. He did not force her to come with him.
• Celine went to Valentine's home where she encountered him killing the warlock they interrogated after finding out that Valentine paid her and in cahoots with him. He framed the Shadowhunters they were tracking just to get rid of them. Celine found out that it was her parents who were being framed yet she did not do anything to set them free. Celine accepted her destiny with Valentine who will give her Stephen.

FAVORITE QUOTES:

"You sure there's not some kind of rune to keep those foul beasts away?" Stephen Herondale said as a thunderous flutter of wings descended. He ducked, whacked blindly at his feathered foe.
The flock of pigeons quick passed, without dealing any mortal blows. Celine waved off a couple of stragglers, and Stephen breathed a sign of relief.
"My hero," he said.

"The great Herondale warrior afraid of pigeons?" she teased, hoping he wouldn't hear the quaver in her voice.
"Not afraid. Simply exhibiting a prudent amount of caution in the face of a potentially demonic creature."
"Demon pigeons?"
"I look upon them with great suspicion," Stephen said with as much dignity as a pigeon-phobe could muster.

"It's like an Eidolon demon tried turning into Cyndi Lauper and accidentally got stuck midway through," Celine joked.
"Huh?" Robert said. "Is that another warlock?"
Stephen smirked. "Yeah, Robert. Another warlock. The Clave executed her 'cause she just wanted to have fun."

I sometimes think there is nothing more painful than love denied. To love someone you cannot have, to stand beside your heart's desire and be unable to take them in your arms. A love that cannot be requited. I can think of nothing more painful than that.

Feelings is what makes us human. Even the most difficult feelings. Perhaps especially those. Love, loss, longing -- this is what it means to be truly alive.

It would be unjust to blame the past for the choices made in the present. Nor can we justify present choices by invoking sins of the past.

We always have a choice, Jem said, and for once, the voice in her mind sounded lie him, warm and close. It's not always the choice we would want, but it's a choice nonetheless. The past happens to us. But we choose our future.

CITY OF GHOSTS

SYNOPSIS: A story a girl who started to see ghosts after she almost died.

RATING: 4.25/5

REVIEW: 

The plot isn't really that unique but it's interesting to see how Victoria Schwab wrote her version. I love how the story unfolded and the way she wrote about the setting allowed you to imagine it vividly. There were creepy moments especially whenever the different restless ghosts were mentioned. Nothing mind blowing happened but it is enjoyable.

You won't fall in love with the characters but you'll find them interesting. I love Jacob. His sarcasm and reactions to things Cassidy did was very entertaining to read about. I love how he seems to genuinely care for Cassidy. The villain was also interesting to read about. She's not really evil but rather super twisted.

Overall, it was such a simple and short read but really interesting. I'm really interested in continuing the series when the next book comes out.

SHOULD YOU READ IT: If you want something short but interesting then yes.

• I wonder what Jacob did in this past and how he came to the rescue of Cassidy. I wonder what will happen in the future. Seeing different ghosts from various sources makes you seriously think which type he'll become.
• I love the subtle Harry Potter mention for the Potterheads. 
• I didn't like Lara in the beginning. She seemed bossy and she's mean towards Jacob but I warmed up to her in the latter part especially when she rescued them and when Cassidy found out that she never released her grandfather.
• I love the concept of people who come from the dead being able to have the powers to release them. Most ghosts just probably want to be free and I'm glad that there is someone there for them. I wonder what type of ghosts will Cassidy be facing in the next book?
• I really like Findley. Even though he's just a minor character, he seemed so welcoming and he helped Cassidy a lot.
• I was really creeped out on the different settings in Scotland that were mentioned. It seemed that there is so much dark history there and you can see why Victoria Schwab used it as the setting for this book.
• I got really tensed when Cassidy's light was stolen by the Raven in Red. It was such a fast paced part of the story and I liked it.
• WHAT HAPPENED?
• Cassidy discussed how she can see ghosts after she almost died and she befriended one, Jacob.
• She decided to visit the auditorium on her school and found a ghost there who she freed.
• Her parents informed her that their book got turned into a tv series starring them and because of it, they'll spend summer in Scotland.
• Her parents filmed their tv series on different locations in Scotland.
• Her mother took her to a church with a graveyard where she first encountered vicious ghosts and the Raven in Red.
• The next one was the vaults and where Cassidy was pulled by the other world without her control. The ghosts there were vicious and she ran away for her safety.
• She saw Lara outside the vaults and she found out that they are supposed to be ghost hunters. They're supposed to free ghosts from their trapped existence.
• They went to a hanging grounds where Cassidy did not feel safe again.
• She decided not to join them for the castle but she met up with Lara and Lara discussed their duty once again and even demonstrated about what they should do. Lara told her to stay away from the Raven in Red because if the Raven got her light, she'll be able to wreak havoc and Cassidy will die once again.
• Findley took Cassidy to the castle where she encountered the Raven once again. She took Jacob and was able to trap Cassidy and take her light. Cassidy got trapped in the other world.
• She and Jacob did their best to follow the Raven while trying to contact Lana. They encountered other ghosts that the Raven used as defense. Meanwhile, the Raven was digging up her own body so that she can resurrect herself using Cassidy's light. Cassidy, Jacob, Lana, and Findley did their best to fight the Raven and won.
• Cassidy got grounded because she went missing during the fight. Lana gave her a mirror as defense.

So my parents talk about-- or write about-- ghosts, but can't actually see them.
I can actually see ghosts, but don't want to talk-- or write --about them. 
I'm pretty sure that's called irony.

As Mom and I make our way to the graveyard, I can practically hear Jacob in my head, uttering a low, sarcastic yaaaaaay.

"Stories have power," she says. "So long as you believe them."

"Well, this is a whole lot of nope," says Jacob, backing away.

This isn't so bad, I think, right before Mom tells me that it used to be an execution ground. Why am I even surprised?

Dad gestures to a low stone slab, a marker on the ground. "See that, Cassidy? Hundreds were put to death right here."
The Veil turns leaden as I reach out to run my hand along the marker.
"Haha noooo," says Jacob, shooing me away.

"You've always been so sensitive to those things."
"Drowning didn't help," offers Jacob cheerfully. 

"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Don't freak out," I say slowly.
His eyes narrow. "That's really not the way to start a sentence if you want me to stay calm."

"Watch and listen, see and know. This is what you are."

| MOVIE - Hereditary |

HEREDITARY

SYNOPSIS: A grieving family experiences unnatural things.

RATING: 2.5/10
REVIEW: 
I really disliked this movie. It was intriguing in the beginning but not even halfway through the movie, things got boring. It had a very slow pacing and everything got confusing. The story went to weird directions and the ending sucked. Probably would have been better if there were back stories about the grandma. 

I absolutely felt nothing for the characters even though they were experiencing terrible things. The movie didn't feel like a horror to me. Sure, there were some jump-scare scenes but I really didn't feel scared. 

The actor for Peter didn't look anything like his family members. It distracted me because you can really see that they are not related in real life. Toni Colette's acting was great but I felt that at times it seems like she was overacting for a scene which resulted to me not appreciating some scenes more.

It didn't live up to the high rating it got on imdb for me. 

SHOULD YOU WATCH IT: Absolutely not (unless you want to waste 2 hours of your life).
WOULD I WATCH IT AGAIN: Absolutely not.

• The only scenes I found shocking / creepy were:
• When Charlie hit her head on the telephone pole and lost her head.
• Annie got possessed and started climbing the wall and slicing her head off.
• I really don't understand how the title is related to what happened in the movie. What is the hereditary part? The demon? The grandma's ritual? Paimon and Charlie? I am still so confusing.
• I am disappointed because I thought the grandma would play a whole bigger role rather than being a dead body with a missing head. Or even Charlie. Instead, we get Joan, a weirdo who just seemed like she lost her mind in trying to contact her dead grandchild. Did she really have a dead grandchild though?
• It felt unfair that Annie blamed Peter for everything especially since it was her fault that Charlie was with Peter. Charlie didn't want to go to the party but Annie made her go.
• It would have been better if we got to see more of Charlie rather than her being dead in the first few minutes. She could've been utilized more to bring creepiness to the story.
• The reveal that Joan and the grandma were friends didn't make such an impact on me. Even though it was supposed to be the climax part, I didn't feel anything. Also, why did Steve die when Annie threw the notebook? That was weird.

| BOOK - A Deeper Love by Cassandra Clare |

A DEEPER LOVE

SYNOPSIS: A story about Brother Zachariah, Tessa Gray, and Catarina Loss.

RATING: 4/5

REVIEW: Again, nothing much happens in this book. We get to see Tessa and Jem together but that's it. It was interesting seeing Catarina at work though. She helped so many people during the war and I'm glad that Jem got to tell her something important.

SHOULD YOU READ IT: Yes, it was a quick read.

• For some reason, I wasn't okay seeing Jem and Tessa talk about their love. I mean, Will just died (three years is not enough). Sure, Tessa loved Jem even before but it made me feel like she had a backup. Don't get me wrong, I love Jem and Tessa together in the current timeline but at this point in time it felt wrong for me.
• I love seeing Catarina. I'm glad that she got to find out that it wasn't her fault that Roland Herondale fled. I'm sure it made her feel better to know that Ronald is alive even though he's on the run.
• I wonder what is up with Roland Herondale's wife. Why did the fae try to kill Jem just because he asked about Roland? How is this connected to Kit Herondale?
• SUMMARY OF WHAT HAPPENED:
• Tessa and Catarina are working as nurses during the war. 
• Brother Zachariah is still looking for the lost herondale. He asked around the Shadow Market for information. He went to an informant who turned out to be a fae who warned him to stop looking and they fought. He killed the fae but the fae managed to poison him. He went looking for Tessa and Catarina to help cure him.
• Tessa and Catarina took Jem to their loft. Catarina tried her best to cure Jem. Tessa and Jem had some moments together. Tessa told him not to distance himself because they should mourn together about Will. Jem informed Tessa about why he got injured and Catarina found out about the fact that the son of the Herondale she saved is still alive but is on the run.
• Jem fled for their loft thinking that he doesn't deserve Tessa because he can't give her what she wants since he's still a Silent Brother.

FAVORITE QUOTES:

This was a game they sometimes played-- what will you eat first when this war is over? Of all the terrible things that were going on, sometimes the most ordinary ran the deepest.

There was nothing worse than being left alone, the one you loved ripped from you.

Constant activity kept grief at bay because there was no time to think.

| Meet Cute: Some People are Destined to Meet |

SYNOPSIS: A collection of meet cute stories. Meet cute is the part of a story where two people meet for the first time before they fall in love.

OVERALL RATING: 3.75/5

REVIEW: It was an interesting collection. There were two stories I didn't like but since there were 14 stories it's safe to say that most of the stories were okay, likable or adorable. There were two stories that stood out for me but I had fun with most of the other stories. They just weren't as impactful as the two ones I really liked. I liked that there was a diverse set of characters - not all of the couples are male and female. It made the stories much more interesting and amazing. Take note that most of the stories end after the two lead characters meet so it doesn't really have much closure. If you don't like stories like that, don't read this. You'd probably get annoyed.

You're the most popular girl in your grade- or at least, you were before everything happened. Now you kind of don't know what you are. A curiosity, maybe.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. This is the story that I really did not like. The writing was alright. The scenario was fine but I really did not like the lead female character. The male character was alright but not really interesting. I really disliked this story because even though I feel bad for Hailey, I really hated that she cheated on her boyfriend with Wolf.

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

REVIEW: FemaleFemale. Nina's writing was really beautiful. You could visualize the printshop that Evie worked in. The characters were interesting and I enjoyed reading this. The circumstance where Evie met Lauren was cute even if it was a bit weird. It's too modern. But hey, since online dating works, then I guess I had no qualms about this one.

3.  HOURGLASS BY IBI ZOBOI

RATING: 3/5

REVIEW: MaleFemale. It was an alright story. The writing, story, and the characters were alright. I did not enjoy it more because it focused more on Cherish's issues with her bestfriend, Stacey. I did not like that they broke their friendship over a useless guy. I wish Mamadou and Cherish had more interactions in the story rather than having met near the ending. Plus, I wish we got to see Cherish wearing the dress on prom.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. I really liked this story. The app was very interesting to me because I could imagine how it was created. I was fascinated by it. I really like how Alexa and Raden met. I like the twist it had in the end. It broke my heart though to find out about Alexa's sister.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. This was another alright story. I liked Phineas. He comforted Clara and pushed her out of her comfort zone. I just felt something a little off about how fast everything happened given Clara's situation.

Lexie let out a single, surprised squeak, but after that all she heard was applause.

REVIEW: TransGay. It was a cute story. It was interesting to see what the author did to the LGBT characters. She made them stand together and be proud of who they are. Still, I did like Lucian and Nia together in the beginning. It was adorable how much Lucian cared for her.

7. THE WAY WE LOVE HERE BY DHONIELLE CLAYTON

None of us know when our time is up. The gods gave us one gift- to know when our loves would come. The best part of life. It would be greedy.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. I really loved this story. This is the story that annoyed me the most because I really want the full version. It had an interesting premise and the events that were shown will really affect you. I really want them to get together in the future even if it will just end up in disaster. At least they had time together.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. I really liked this story. Moss and the guy were really cute together. I love that it was through a book that they met and they had their first meet up in the library.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. This was a cute but sad story. How are things supposed to work between them if they are on different planets! I'm glad that Blythe was able to encourage Phillip though. Their scene in the isolation chamber was cute.

REVIEW: FemaleFemale. It was a really short but really cute story. Martha and June's connection felt real and adorable. I loved it. I loved the circumstance where they met.

What you get to keep is the friendship- and someday more- of that boy whose life unexpected collided with yours, who made it a resolution to right a wrong, whatever way he could.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. It was an alright story but not really that amazing. There were times that I felt cringy about the situation but I liked what Sean was doing. He was a good guy.

REVIEW: MaleFemale. I liked the concept that there is a department for helping heartbroken people. I even liked Thomas and Gabby together and I predicted it would be them together in the end but I can't help but think about how Sam would feel? He disrupted her life and gave her a way to restore their relationship which she also wanted but just stopped.

SYNOPSIS: A story about the last Oracle Queen.
RATING: 4.3/5

REVIEW: This was such a greatly written short story. It made me feel all sorts of emotion such as happiness, sadness, and anger. I'm glad that I got to find out the story about why the last Oracle Queen had a very bad reputation. There was a lot of betrayal in this short story and it was written amazingly (because it made me really angry). 

SHOULD YOU READ IT: Yes! Especially if you're curious about the last Oracle Queen.

• I hate Francesca, William, Gilbert and Sonia so much. Francesca was such an evil person. William was an asshole. Gilbert was a freakin' idiot. Sonia was such a bitch. I hate that they won. They were able to take the crown from Elsabet and kill all her friends. 
• I really like Jonathan. He was able to comfort Elsabet and I wanted them together. I really hated that he became a casualty of Francesca greediness but he was partially to blame for taunting Francesca.
• I really like Elsabet, Bess, and Rosamund's friendship. Beth and Rosamund were always there to support Elsabet even though she was unreasonable at some point. 
• I hate that Bess was killed. She was such a lovely person. I'm glad that they mourned her death hard.
• I felt really bad for Rosamund. She's such a badass character and tried to fight Sonia but there were just too much. I felt bad for her especially since she knows that her family was killed as a casualty.
• I wonder how they were able to continue the line of the Queen from Elsabet. She probably just lost all hope.
• It broke my heart that they found out about Francesca plan late. They figured things out but it didn't help them. It just made things worse.
• SHORT SUMMARY:
1. Elsabet, the Oracle Queen, won the throne. Many of her council members do not like her because she's headstrong and does what she wants. Francesca plotted against her. 
2. Her consort flirted with every woman in the kingdom and she kept losing her patience with him in public. Her maid, Bess, and her friend Rosamund tried to help her relax. She met a painter during a festival and they become close. She already lost interest in her consort and is now entertaining Jonathan Denton.
3. It was revealed that Francesca is the king consort's lover. He was purposely flirting with other women so that Elsabet would not know about his affair with Francesca. It was also revealed that Elsabet has been drinking poison that kept sealed her powers off. It was created by Francesca. Jonathan figured it out and told Bess and Rosamund about it.
4. Bess tried to talk to him one morning. She left immediately and Jonathan followed her. Bess died because Francesca and Sonia thought that it was Jonathan who was coming out. They turned the story and told everyone that Elsabet ordered the killing. They made it look as though Bess and Jonathan were having an affair and Elsabet got jealous.
5. Sonia and Rosamund fought. Rosamund fought hard but Sonia had many guards. She lost. Elsabet lost everyone and was locked up in the tower until she gave birth to her triplets. Francesca won.
